We’re proud to present one of the finest second-gen Firebirds on the planet: an 8,000-mile 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Y88 Gold Special Edition the one-year-only “Gold Package” that Pontiac offered exclusively for 1978. Finished in its original Solar Gold (Code 50) with SE-style brown graphics, this Y88 carries the hallmark gold-mirrored Fisher T-Tops—another feature unique to the ’78 Y88 package plus gold accents throughout (gold snowflake wheels, gold engine-turned dash bezel, and gold-spoke Snowflake correct finish as required by the factory).

This is an unrestored, numbers-matching car wearing its original paint and interior. Inside and out, it’s among the best Y88s we’ve ever seen. A remarkable preservation note: the seats were covered with protective covers from new in 1978 until 2019. When we acquired the car from the previous owner, it showed just ~7,000 miles (see title copy below).

Part of our personal collection, this museum-quality Trans Am remains stock in appearance yet benefits from subtle, reversible tuning to deliver a respectful ~350 hp while keeping the numbers-matching drivetrain intact.

Tasteful upgrades we performed:

  • Professionally re-wrapped the steering wheel in real leather (original look, better feel)

  • Installed a vintage-style modern radio (original unit included)

  • New dual exhaust for enhanced flow

  • Factory WS6 suspension (sourced from our stash) for sharper handling, exactly what enthusiasts love about late ’78 cars

  • Fresh wheels and new tires
