The GMC Caballero was GMC's version of the Chevrolet El Camino car/truck hybrid. It was called Sprint from 1971-77, and renamed Caballero when the line was redesigned along with the rest of the GM A platform line in 1978 (which became the GM G platform in 1982). The Caballeros shared its mechanicals with the Chevy Malibu sedan, but had a 9-inch longer wheelbase. Other than different nameplates it was difficult to distinguish a Caballero from an El Camino at more than 10 paces distance. It was largely for this reason that the Caballero never sold near the volume the El Camino did (many never even knew a GMC version existed), but its rarity counts as a plus to many El Camino fans and collectors.
The name Caballero is from the Spanish language. Its most common definition today is "gentleman", though its technical definition is "horseman" (caballo meaning horse), related to the English "cowboy", though the more appropriate term for cowboy would be vaquero (from "vaca", cow). The English cognate is cavalier, which was derived from the French. This is notable as Chevrolet later had a compact car by that name. The name is also more appropriate for a vehicle of its type, as its competition was the Ranchero and its sister model was the El Camino.
 

This is s a project car that  runs strong, she has rust here and there. Needs body work and paint, interior needs some work too.
