Vehicle Description
1979 Y84 Special Edition Trans Am, Bandit version WITH
HARDTOP! 1 of less than 20 known.
The Y84 package came standard with t-tops and customers
didnt know they could delete the t-tops from their
purchase order. Of the 10,000+ SE bandits made in 1979,
less than 20 hardtop versions are known to exist. This
particular car was verified to be one of the few
existing Y84 t-top delete cars by Pontiac Historical
Society, that documentation comes with the car. This is
a car that could be Barret Auctions worthy if the right
person finishes the work. Runs, drives, and looks good
as it is. VERY few out there so tough to compare
prices, but I can't find any examples for sale for under
20k.
For auction or show caliber, it is going to need
some TLC like new hood hinges, gas cap taillight door,
small crack in corner of winshield, window trim pieces,
interior door panels need work, passenger door handle,
headliner, etc, and could use a better paint job. A lot
of it is in great shape. There is a trunk full of
interior pieces to finish headliner (seat belts and
visors and trim). Engine is not original, dont know
exactly what is in it as we cant find any serial
numbers, but the best guess is its a 301 turbo with new
edelbrok carb and valve covers. Mileage says 55k but
speedometer bounces when driving so unsure if odometer
is registering mileage accurately.
No cracks in dash and console, no rips in seats or
carpet, original honeycomb wheels, tires are l
